The film was inspired by my first winter in France. Growing up in a tropical country, I had never witnessed the changing seasons before. Behind our studio stood a big tree that I often sat under during summer. But when winter came, the tree shed all its leaves, while the pine tree next to it stayed still. I began to wonder if the trees were friends, and if the pine tree would miss their friends as they went into hibernation for the winter.
The film was made using traditional gouache and acrylic paintings, which were then animated digitally using puppet cutout animation.
